Dyslexics, drowning in the mainstream

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Mike Juggins stirs the waters in his new article about getting school authorities to organize twin-track systems for dyslexic and non-dyslexic pupils in their schools.

'Despite having higher than average IQs, we often end up on the employment scrap heap or locked up in prison.'

Dyslexic children need 'their own educational system - a separate multi-sensory (holistic) learning environment within the mainstream'.

Dyslexia in California

----------------------------------------------------------------------

We have started to gather information about all the different resources available if you live in California: organizations, associations, local groups, bookshops, dyslexia centers, schools, publishers, and so on. We have made a start on this, but I am sure that there are many major omissions. If you notice any resources we have missed, please add them through the form at the bottom of the page. Next month we're planning to hit Texas! Any volunteers for the remaining 49 states???

Australia and New Zealand

-----------------------------------------------------------------------

The shortage of dyslexia links in Australia and New Zealand has been drawn to our attention by a number of Australian parents and dyslexic adults. We have created a web-page with the few links we can find. If you would like to make a start on building up further contacts, you are welcome to use our web-page's), and we can easily arrange for a free bulletin/discussion board to let people communicate. Contact us for more info.

Voice recognition helps dyslexics

-------------------------------------------------------

You may have heard of programs like IBM Via Voice and Dragon Dictate, where the computer types what you say. This report shows positive results from their use. The feedback we have received is that the more time you spend at the beginning 'training' the program to learn your own particular voice patterns, the better it works. (July 19th 01)
