** Better Late than Never - one adult's experience of dyslexia

----------------------------------------------

"In May 2001, I was diagnosed as suffering from the learning difficulty, dyslexia, at the age of 21. At this point I had been through sixteen years of full-time education. In retrospect it was clear that there was always something wrong with my learning skills. Possibly they were not picked up on, as I didn’t cause a disturbance, unlike other people at my school with learning difficulties. I just sat there and tried my very best to get as much done as I possibly could until my books were taken from me."

Diet and Dyslexia

----------------------------------------------

Have you wondered whether a dyslexic child's diet can affect their educational performance? Have you heard rumours about the benefits of taking fish oil? It's not so long ago that most children were given cod liver oil for its beneficial properties, and I believe a lot of people now take it to prevent rheumatism. But what about dyslexia?

You probably know about avoiding sugary drinks, chocolate, cola drinks and food with colorings if a child suffers from Attention Deficit. But what about pure, fresh orange juice? Over-stimulating? Well, yes, acccording to Dot. She and William Ferguson have written two articles bringing together the latest thoughts about diet, dyslexia and ADD/ADHD.

Test of Early Identification of Dyslexia

----------------------------------------------

'The “Test of early identification of dyslexia” formed the main tool of measurement of the research that took place among 584 infants who were going to the schools of the urban zones of four towns in the prefecture of Ioannina in Greece.' - a new article by Victoria Zakopoulou and Lambros Stavrou in the Dyslexia Online Journal.

Free Talking Browser

----------------------------------------------

Feeling lazy? Well, some web pages take a lot of reading! "Web Talkster" is a talking browser. You can use it like any other browser, e.g. Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator, but it will read out loud what is on each web page you visit. You can also select a section of a page to be read out loud to you. You can choose the "voice" it reads in, and you can hide the rather silly figure which appears on the page if you wish. The good news is that Web Talkster is free, and you can download it in about 30 minutes at this page on the Dyslexia Adults Link, where other details are given:
